If you find trucks appealing but dislike how heavy and cumbersome they can feel while driving, then the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado and the 2021 Ford Ranger are two excellent options. They are both mid-sized trucks and share their platform with SUVs, so they feel more in line with an SUV and not a full-sized truck. Both are starting at around $25,000 MSRP, so let’s compare the two.
When we look at the engines, we will start with the Ford because it has had a singular option since 2019. It comes with a turbocharged 2.3L I4 with 270 hp and 310 lb*ft of torque. This engine used on many Ford vehicles is linked to a 10-speed automatic in either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. On the other hand, the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado has more options, 3 to be precise. As standard, it comes with a naturally aspirated 2.5L I4 with 200 hp and 191 lb*ft of torque, the other two being a naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 with 308 hp and 275 lb*ft of torque or a turbocharged 2.8L diesel I4 with 181 hp and 369 lb*ft of torque. These are linked to either a 6 or 8-speed automatic in either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
On the interior, the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado has plenty of options if you want them, but as standard, it keeps it reasonably basic to lower the costs if all you need is a work truck. Even then, it comes standard with an infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth capability. On higher trims, you can get an improved audio system made by Bose, leather-appointed seats, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, automatic climate control, and plenty of USB ports so you can charge your devices.
Owners are happy with their 2021 Chevrolet Colorado, saying it’s the best vehicle that can do basically anything that you want it to do, all while remaining a very respectable daily driver.
As such, if you are looking for a truck that can do everything and not sacrifice a whole lot while doing so, then the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado is a perfect choice, better than the 2021 Ford Ranger due to the extra customizability that the 2021 Colorado offers you. Come in today for a test drive at Shepherd’s Chevrolet in North Manchester, Indiana, where we’ll always treat you like family.

Government 5-Star Safety Ratings are part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s New Car Assessment Program (www.safercar.gov). Model tested with standard side airbags (SAB). Starting with 2011 models, NHTSA has introduced tougher tests and rigorous new 5-Star Safety Ratings that provide more information about vehicle safety and crash avoidance technologies. Because of the more stringent tests, ratings for 2011 and newer vehicles should not be compared to ratings for 1990-2010 models. Overall vehicle score and frontal crash ratings should ONLY be compared to other vehicles of similar size and weight. For more information go to www.safercar.gov
